A Faster, More Complete ID Scanning Workflow

Hotels can now use the Thales CR5400 directly with Guest Ban. The integration combines professional double sided imaging with Guest Ban guest data capture, screening, record management, and supported property management system transfer tools.

With one simple scan, front desk teams can capture the front and back of an ID, extract available guest information, review security images, check for enabled alerts, and transfer the details into supported hotel systems.

What Is the Thales Gemalto CR5400?

The Thales Gemalto CR5400 is a professional duplex scanner designed for card sized government issued identity documents, including driver licenses and identification cards.

Unlike a traditional single sided scanner, the CR5400 captures the front and back of an ID at the same time. The guest places the card into the illuminated slot in either portrait orientation. The scanner automatically detects the card, completes the capture, and ejects it when the scan is finished.

This simple drop in process reduces handling time and eliminates the need for a front desk employee to scan one side, remove the card, turn it over, and scan it again.

How the CR5400 Works With Guest Ban

Once the Gemalto CR5400 or Thales CR5400 is connected to a supported Windows computer and configured with Guest Ban, the front desk can complete an ID scan as part of its normal guest registration process.

  1. Place the guest’s driver license or identification card into the CR5400.
  2. The scanner captures the front and back simultaneously.
  3. Guest Ban reads the available identity fields and barcode data.
  4. The front desk reviews the guest information and any enabled alerts.
  5. The information can be transferred into the hotel’s supported property management system.
  6. The scan record is retained according to the hotel’s Guest Ban plan, settings, and applicable policies.

Key Benefits for Hotel Front Desks

True Duplex Capture

The front and back of the ID are captured during one scan, providing a more complete record without requiring the employee to turn the card over.

Security Image Review

Visible, infrared, and UVA imaging can reveal document details and security patterns that may not appear under normal front desk lighting.

Less Manual Typing

Guest Ban uses captured ID and barcode information to reduce repetitive data entry and improve registration accuracy.

Guest Ban Screening

Depending on the selected plan, Guest Ban can compare the guest with the property’s Do Not Rent list and other enabled screening tools.

Supported PMS Transfer

Captured guest details can be transferred into supported property management systems, helping speed up the check in workflow.

Stronger Documentation

ID images and guest records can provide useful supporting documentation during incident and chargeback reviews.

Visible, Infrared, and UV ID Imaging

The Thales Gemalto CR5400 uses multiple illumination sources to capture details that may not be equally visible under ordinary room lighting.

Visible Light

Creates standard color images for everyday data capture, visual review, and documentation.

Near Infrared

Can reveal document elements and printing behavior that appear differently outside the visible spectrum.

Ultraviolet Light

Can expose UV responsive patterns and other security elements incorporated into many government issued IDs.

UV and infrared images provide supporting visual evidence, but no single scanner feature can guarantee that a document is authentic. Hotel employees should continue following the property’s identification and escalation procedures.

Clearer Images With Anti Glare Technology

Driver licenses often contain glossy laminates, holograms, and optically variable devices that can reflect light and cover important information in an ordinary photograph.

The CR5400 includes anti glare imaging technology designed to reduce these reflections. The scanner uses a 10 megapixel CMOS sensor, supports 24 bit color, and offers configurable image resolution up to 630 DPI. These capabilities support detailed front and back images, barcode reading, and optical character recognition workflows.

Faster Data Capture With Fewer Manual Errors

The CR5400 can read common one dimensional and two dimensional barcode formats, including the PDF417 barcode widely used on North American driver licenses. Its AAMVA parser supports decoding data from compatible driver license barcodes.
