Description
Thales CR5400 Duplex ID Scanner
The Thales CR5400 brings fast, professional double sided ID scanning to the Guest Ban platform.
Designed for busy hotel front desks, the CR5400 captures the front and back of a driver license or identification card simultaneously. There is no need to turn the card over or complete a second scan. Simply place the ID into the illuminated slot in either portrait orientation. The scanner automatically detects the document, captures the required images, and ejects the card when the scan is complete.

Fully Integrated With Guest Ban
When connected to Guest Ban, the CR5400 can capture the guest’s identification details and reduce repetitive manual entry during check in.
Guest Ban can use the captured information to:
- Automatically populate guest information
- Transfer guest details into supported property management systems
- Check the guest against the property’s Do Not Rent list
- Display enabled Guest Ban alerts
- Capture the front and back of the identification card
- Store ID evidence according to the property’s plan and retention settings
- Support incident, fraud, and chargeback reviews
Duplex Front and Back Capture
The CR5400 uses duplex imaging to scan both sides of an ID during one operation.
The front of an ID commonly contains the guest’s photograph, name, address, date of birth, expiration date, and identification number. The back commonly contains the PDF417 barcode used on North American driver licenses.
Capturing both sides provides a more complete record while eliminating the additional time required to remove, turn over, and rescan the card.
UV, Infrared, and Visible Imaging
The CR5400 captures ID images using visible light, near infrared light, and ultraviolet light.
Produces standard color images used for data capture and visual review.
Can reveal document elements that appear differently outside the normal visible spectrum.
Can expose UV responsive patterns and security elements incorporated into many government issued identification cards.
When UV capture is enabled through Guest Ban, authorized employees can review the UV image for missing, unusual, or inconsistent security patterns.
Clear Images With Anti Glare Technology
Driver licenses commonly contain reflective laminates, holograms, and other optical security elements. These surfaces can produce glare that covers important information in ordinary photographs.
The CR5400 uses anti glare technology to reduce reflections and produce clearer images for visual review, barcode reading, data extraction, and record retention.
Fast Barcode and Guest Data Capture
The scanner supports common one dimensional and two dimensional barcode formats, including the PDF417 barcode used on many North American driver licenses.
- Guest name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Driver license or ID number
- Issuing state
- Expiration date
This reduces typing errors, creates a more consistent registration process, and helps front desk employees complete guest check in more efficiently.
Compact and Easy to Use
The CR5400 has a compact footprint that fits comfortably on most hotel front desks. It connects through USB and includes an illuminated card slot, automatic document detection, simple portrait insertion, and automatic card ejection.
Its straightforward operation requires minimal employee training and makes it suitable for properties with frequent staff changes or multiple front desk shifts.
Important Compatibility Information
The CR5400 is designed for card sized driver licenses and identification cards. It does not scan passport books.
Guest Ban installation and configuration are required to use the scanner with Guest Ban features. Available alerts, PMS integrations, UV capture, and record retention depend on the property’s selected Guest Ban plan and system configuration.
